POS Index January 2017 through November 2018
The POS Index is a representation of a significant number of manufacturers POS activity that are primarily engaged in the electronic components industry. Products that will be included in the index are passive/electromechanical in nature, including (but not specific to) commodities such as wire & cable, switches, connectors, circuit protection, electronic hardware, resistors, capacitors, et.al. The index charts POS activity beginning with January of 2017 as its base point and then compares POS by month.
When starting a new calendar year, our index is structured so that the new base point is the beginning of the previous year. Therefore, January of 2017 now becomes the new base point. We have also added five new manufacturers into the mix. This will bring the number of manufacturers included in the index up to over ninety companies. The Budde Marketing POS Index is arguably the most complete benchmark of POS activity that our industry has at this time.
November of 2018 was down about 10% vs October, 2018, which is consistent with previous years when comparing the two months. Over 80% of the companies being polled were down in November when compared to October of 2018.
The good news is that November of 2018 was actually 4% above the November 2017 index point. October of 2018 represented the third highest month of the year. Every month in 2018 still continues to outperform the same month in 2017.
First eleven months of 2018 POS numbers are 8% ahead of same time period of 2017, still a strong year for the industry.
