POS Index January 2016 through November 2017
The POS Index is a representation of a significant number of manufacturers POS activity that are primarily engaged in the electronic components industry. Products that will be included in the index are passive/electromechanical in nature, including (but not specific to) commodities such as wire & cable, switches, connectors, circuit protection, electronic hardware, resistors, capacitors, et.al. The index charts POS activity beginning with January of 2015 as its base point and then compares POS by month.
When starting a new calendar year, our index is structured so that the new base point is the beginning of the previous year. Therefore, January of 2016 now becomes the new base point. We have also added about fifteen new manufacturers into the mix. This will bring the number of manufacturers included in the index up to nearly ninety companies. The Budde Marketing POS Index is arguably the most complete benchmark of POS activity that our industry has at this time.
November of 2017 was 7% above the January 2016 base point and also 7% above November 2016 POS numbers. Although November wasn’t the best month of 2017, it was still near the year to date 2017 number of 8% up for the year. Unless there is a catastrophic December, the POS Index should finish up nicely for 2017.
