POS Index January 2016 through July 2017
The POS Index is a representation of a significant number of manufacturers POS activity that are primarily engaged in the electronic components industry. Products that will be included in the index are passive/electromechanical in nature, including (but not specific to) commodities such as wire & cable, switches, connectors, circuit protection, electronic hardware, resistors, capacitors, et.al. The index charts POS activity beginning with January of 2015 as its base point and then compares POS by month.
When starting a new calendar year, our index is structured so that the new base point is the beginning of the previous year. Therefore, January of 2016 now becomes the new base point. We have also added about fifteen new manufacturers into the mix. This will bring the number of manufacturers included in the index up to nearly ninety companies. The Budde Marketing POS Index is arguably the most complete benchmark of POS activity that our industry has at this time.
July of 2017, as expected, tailed off from strong June, 2017 numbers as the industry corrected some large POS activity in March through June of this year. That being said, June of 2017 is still 2-3% ahead of June of 2016 and slightly over the index point of January of 2016. Over 75% of the manufacturers being included in the Index showed a downturn in June. Year over year however, 2017 remains up about 3-4% when compared to 2016.
